DC vs Marvel: Which One Won Me Over (The Most)?

Geek out session! So this time, I would like to geek out on one of the best things that ever existed, which is... Comics. Now, I'm not going to exactly explain or tell you things about comics in general, I'd only talk about another kind of entertainment that include the plot and characters of the ones in the comics: its movies and TV shows.

So, it's pretty much impossible if you've never heard of the companies that I've stated in the title above--DC and Marvel. These two companies are basically the top leading comic books and related media publishers, they both are literally the number ones of comic books, none of them can come in second. At least, not for me. Since I'm in a rather talkative mood, I'll break everything down to you.

DC Comics is that one comic company that owns superheroes such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, The Flash, everyone you know in the Justice League and Teen Titans, you name it. The first character that made me completely fall in love with this company was Batman. Well, not exactly, I guess, the first ever character that I got really hooked up to was actually The Joker. The one that was played by Jack Nicholson in that Batman movie that was released on the '89. Yep. Now that I think about it, it's really creepy how mini-me could be attracted into such fucked-up character played by such old dude. And mind again that it was my first ever attraction for fictional characters, which was basically what started everything out. The beginning of the obsessive Tata over people that aren't exactly real. After that, I got all crazed up over anything that's Batman related, I ended up watching the whole Batman movies and I fell even more in love than before. Then again, I was somehow--once again--fell more in love with the idea of the villains over Batman himself. From The Joker to The Penguin, then Two-Face plus The Riddler, then Mr. Freeze (well, hell yeah, Arnold Schwarzenegger), Poison Ivy and Bane. This movie franchise kind of ended in the '97, which was the year that I was born, but my obsession started when I was still a 5-6 year old, if I'm not mistaken, and shockingly, the obsession actually lasted very long. Even with no new Batman movies to watch, I still got the Batman cartoon series that they'd usually air before I go to school. I usually would refuse to go to school if the show hadn't finished yet and because of that I often came late into class, but fuck yeah, it was all definitely worth it, seeing Batman trying to kick Joker's ass and everything.
What was even more awesome was that there's this one girl in school that was also into Batman stuffs. Well, to be fair, she was more into Robin, but same thing. Anyways, meeting her in the third grade was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me in my primary school, since whenever we were on break, we'd circle the school to find leaves and other nature stuffs and we would crush them all into one big pile and called them Poison's Ivy concoctions. The obsessions still continues even until now. Which I'm actually very grateful about.

Now, moving on to Marvel. This company holds all superheroes such as Spider-Man, Iron-Man, Thor, Hulk, Fantastic Four, X-Men and many more characters than you could ever imagine. It's basically impossible to not know Marvel, remembering that they're on the rise nowadays... Avengers? Guardians of The Galaxy? Their movies are everywhere. Yeah, I'm also very keen with this company and its characters, I mean, who doesn't? Even if you're not exactly into the characters, you've got to love the movie because they picked the best actors to play in their movies. I mean, come on. Chris Evans? Scarlett Johansson? Tom Hiddleston? Michael Fassbender? Jennifer Lawrence? The list goes on, man.
My first obsession with Marvel--my first crush on a Marvel character, though, was actually... Scott Summers. Mostly known as Cyclops from X-Men, and back then he was played by the loveliest James Marsden. My dad used to play the movies and I would usually tag along and watch the movies together with him. I got attached to him, because, seriously. I mean. He's perfect. The guy was hella attractive (yes, fetus Tata was perfectly straight) and can shoot laser from his eyes. I would date the hell out of that guy.
My dad got me an action figure for Cyclops when I was in kindergarten. There's this button on its back that could light the action figure's eyes and I loved it. I would bring it to my pre-school when other girls would've brought their barbies. Fetus Tata was anti-mainstream as fuck. That action figure was basically my bestfriend, alright.
My obsession with Cyclops grew into something so much more, I became very much absorbed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, remembering that my dad would always watch them with me. I began rememering characters and it became pretty much a hobby. One does not simply doubt my ability to obsess over something.

Now that those are out there, I don't exactly know which one I love the most. I love both equally, to be honest, even when most people say that DC will never be able to be as awesome as Marvel.
With superhero movies on the rise, both companies have planned several (yes, several) movies for the future. Now, let's compare all these future movies, shall we?

this is how the future looks like for us and it is very bright i'm telling you

Since I'm writing this in mid-February, we've still got all Avengers:AoU, Ant-Man, and the Fantastic Four reboot for this year. Fun, fun, fun! Well, they're all from Marvel, anyway, DC will kickstart their new beginning to the cinematic universe in 2016 with Batman vs Superman that will also include our new Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Cyborg. Talking about trying to catch up. As you can see in that picture, DC are planning to assemble Justice League, thus the sudden appearance of these new characters. In the exact same year, DC will also be releasing a Suicide Squad movie, which I'm very much excited for, remembering that this fucking squad contains The Joker (Jared Leto), Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Enchantress (Cara Delevigne), Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman). There could also be an appearance from Deathstroke and Lex Luthor, but it's still in talks, probably. This movie is basically a man-made heaven for me. As weird as it is, I'm actually usually more into the supervillains rather than the superheroes. Are we forgetting the fact that they chose Jared Leto, one of my most favorite artists in the world, to play as The Joker, which basically is like one of my most loved fictional characters ever? The one character that got me into this whole bunch of mess in the first place? And then Deadshot? Like, one of the most coolest villains ever? I've fallen in love with the Deadshot from DC's Arrow series and I'd definitely love it if they don't ruin the Deadshot in the movie.
In also the exact same year, Marvel's going to release Captain America: Civil War, which is probably a follow-up from the mess that they're going to leave us with in the ending of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Aside from Captain America, there will also be an appearance from Iron Man which will be like the conflict-maker of the movie. Not only Tony Stark, it's also been confirmed that Spider-Man will be in the movie, too. Now, since Marvel just got their right to include Spider-Man in their movies, this means that they'll have to reboot the whole thing all over again, so there goes our perfect Peter Parker aka Andrew Garfield. I mean, you've got to admit, the guy made a good Peter Parker. With yet, another Spider-Man reboot, this might actually give Miles Morales a chance to actually be the Spider-Man, instead of Peter Parker. Not just that, if they do adapt yet another Peter Parker, they're aiming to cast a younger version of Peter Parker, possibly the one that's still in high school along with Osborn and MJ. That would be awesome, though, I've got to admit. Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange follows after that, and a possible Sinister Six movie, which is a movie that's also about a squad of villains, though this time, it's filled with Spider-Man's villains only. That should be interesting.
If I have to explain all these upcoming movies one by one, either (or both) DCU or(/and) MCU might as well hire me as one of their workers, that would be more effective. Oh, how lovely that would be. But, I'm only here to let out some unbearable feelings toward this matter.

First off, I should give a heads up over the fact that I watch over 20 TV shows and I even got an app to keep track where I left off in each and every one of 'em. And with the rise of these comic books adapted shows, of course there would be several that's based on them. From DC, we've got Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, a future iZombie, Supergirl and Teen Titans show. From Marvel, we've got Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, a future Jessica Jones and Daredevil. There are more upcoming ones, though they're not exactly officially announced yet, so I'll just leave it at that. Now, these shows are a big part of the awakening of this side of me--the total comic fangirl side.
I started out by watching Arrow because I had nothing better to do. I was bored, and I came across this show, so I started watching the pilot. Realizing I still had more time to kill, I then continued to episode two and what started as an activity out of boredom became something more, a freaking binge-watch. I ended up like watching six episode in a row, I was practically addicted. Back then, I didn't even know I was watching the origin story of Green Arrow, because, let's be honest; this Arrow and the comic book Green Arrow doesn't exactly look alike. Several episodes in, I did think that the name 'Oliver Queen' was familiar, though I couldn't quite place my finger on it. This show is a very brilliant piece of art. It tells us the journey of Oliver trying to find himself, making choices on what's best for him and his city. What I love about this show is that they're developing more characters out of the comic Green Arrow world into this show. We've got Ra's Al-Ghul, Deathstroke, Captain Boomerang and now The Atom. They bloody teased the The Flash show through this show, for God's sake. Every now and then we'd get a crossover between the two and it's one of the best things to happen to my inner geek, okay. The variety of villains in this show is also fucking amazing, I'm telling you. Like any other TV shows, a season of this show would build up into one particular major villain that we would see the two battle in the season finale, but throughout, we'd get Oliver and the gang trying to take other matters into their hands, too. Of course, my favorite characters from this show would include a hell lot of its villains such as Deathstroke and the whole Suicide Squad (yes, there's a mini Suicide Squad in this show and I love them to fucking bits), it's actually a nature for me now--to love the villains more than the heroes. And yes, it's actually moral ruining, since every now and then I'd think that being a villain like them would actually be pretty fun, causing chaos and everything, but in the end, I will always try to side with Arrow, Arsenal, Diggle and Felicity because, really. They're like my squad goal.
Then in Marvel we've got Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, which is a series based on the events that happened after the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where SHIELD is in ruins thanks to Hydra. This is a show where they show us how Coulson ((MAJOR SPOILER) that actually was resurrected back to life by SHIELD itself) and some other agents try to rebuild SHIELD again from the scratch. What I love about this show is how they're actually really connected to the MCU movies, like in the first season finale was the moment where the final fight in CA:TWS happened, only it was more in the point of view of the show's characters. They even brought some actors and actresses from the MCU movies to play in some episodes, like that one episode where Lady Sif (Thor) came to earth and they helped her to do whatever it is that she came to do. Like any other TV shows, of course, there's got to be that one evil mofo that is very attractive, and that character happened to also be falling in love with the main character and was actually a SHIELD agent that was actually working with Hydra. The feels they could make me go through in their episodes is so overwhelming, I sometimes bawl my eyes out whenever I'm watching this. They also connect some upcoming Marvel movies in here, so it's like heads ups in the form of easter eggs. The characters that they picked are also very amusing, so it's really fun to watch.
Agent Carter, on the other hand, is the show which is mostly about Peggy Carter, Steve Roger's girlfriend who's trying to get back into the world of badassery after she lost Cap in the first movie. Howard Stark from the movie also made some appearances in this show, making it also a really fun thing to watch. Not just that, we also got Jarvis--like the real, human version of Edwin Jarvis--that nobody human could really hate. You've seen how just the robotic Jarvis could really be a pretentious smartass, right? Now you get to see him in real human form.
Back to DC, I'm going to start with The Flash. We've got some previews of Barry Allen on the Arrow show, which freaked us out to no end. One Arrow episode, they teased how Barry went back to Central from Starling after helping the Arrow out, he went into his office on the day the STAR labs' reactor was about to make its debut but then failed, causing the reaction which Barry got struck with a lightning along with the blast of the reactor, sending him into a comatose state and him finally waking up all worked up with superpower. The main plot of this origin story is about Barry mostly learning to control his ability, learning to help people and helping STAR labs capture metahumans--the people that also got special powers after being exposed to the blast of the reactor. The show is still pretty new, and each episode we get to see Barry fighting different villains in each episode and him trying to get his father out of jail after being accused of his mother's murder which happened pretty much because of Reverse Flash, The Flash's main enemy. Even from the first season we're already dealing with Reverse Flash, which I think is a bit too soon since he's after all a very major villain that I thought they'd try to bring in latter seasons. Now, what really got me hooked up to this show is not only the villains, but also the fucking mind-blowing riddles and plot-twists. Not only this, we also get to see yet another group of villains trying to come together as one to fight The Flash. They're still in the process of getting together, but remembering that so far we've got Captain Cold, Heatwave, Pied Piper and an upcoming Trickster and Mirror Master, I'm pretty sure The Rogues will happen soon. Which is something that I'm very looking forward, too, because they. Just. Had. To. Pick. The. Most. Attractive. People. To. Play. As. Them. Do I have to like rob the town's biggest bank or kill the most important people of the city to be attractive and cool? Because, hell, give me a freezing gun, I'd gladly do so.
Gotham, on the other hand, is a DC show that's not exactly related to both Arrow and The Flash, but you know what it's related to? Even from the name you could tell. This tells us about the young version of James Gordon, that commissioner in Batman movies that don't exactly know who Batman is, but like is a pro to the idea of Batman while the whole town (or the police department, at least) thinks that Batman is just another threat to the town? Yeah, that guy. It's centered in Gordon from when he was only a detective, dealing with young Penguin, Catwoman, Bruce Wayne, The Riddler, Scarecrow, Two-Face and Poison Ivy. Basically we get to see Batman's foes in their early years, before they started to screw with people's lives for a living and this is one hell of an interesting story, for God's sake, if I could marry this show, I fucking gladly would. I mean, I was freaking obsessed with Batman, I watched every single of the old movies, so of course, I'd know the characters by heart. Now, getting to know said characters before they were evil whatsoever is just a blessing, a fucking gift to my soul. AND HOW THEY WERE ALL ACTUALLY CONNECTED TO ONE ANOTHER IS JUST BEYOND EVERYTHING. How Nygma aka The Riddler actually worked in the GCPD as a forensic scientist that mostly helped Gordon solve his cases. How Gordon actually saved Cobblepot aka The Penguin when he was told to kill the guy instead. How Gordon asked for Selina Kyle aka Catwoman help him with the murder case of Bruce's parents because she witnessed the whole thing. How Harvey Dent and Gordon was partners to make Gotham a better city. How Jonathan Crane went all cuckoo after getting injected with adrenaline then got scared by a scarecrow and Gordon was there to kind of save him even though it was too late. How Gordon promised Bruce to capture whoever murdered his parents and how he was so caring and loving towards to poor orphan kid IMAGINE THE FEELS MAN I CAN'T EVEN CONTAIN MY SANITY WHENEVER I'M WATCHING AN EPISODE OF THIS SHOW. I was sobbing when I first watched the fucking first scene of the fucking pilot, that fucking time where Martha and Thomas Wayne were fucking killed. THIS IS MY FIRST SUPERHERO OBSESSION AND TO SEE THE ACTUAL STORY OF HOW BRUCE HAVE TO DEAL WITH ALL THE PAIN AND BEING AN ORPHAN WITH JUST ALFRED AS HIS FAMILY IS JUST VERY OVERWHELMING OKAY. AND OF COURSE I'M IN LOVE WITH THESE CHARACTERS. They're villains (or future villains, at least) and this was the story from a life where they were all still sane. Kind of. And to see them develop into the villains that I know by heart? Damn right touching, somehow. The last episode of this show that I just watched, they just pulled the freaking 'The Flying Graysons' card (cough cough Dick Grayson alert) and a character that they did tease as someone that's 'no joke' and would laugh in a very creepy, yet charming laugh. Get the hint? WELL I WAS FUCKING FLIPPING BECAUSE THEY PULLED THIS SO BRILLIANTLY. A young Joker? Fuck it, count me in.

So you've seen me in my true form. I guess. This is how I feel towards said TV shows, and thankfully you will never have to endure seeing me watch these shows, because I lost all kinds of shit whenever it's on. Funny how some people's idea of a perfect date is to stay in and have a marathon of a certain TV show, but I'm pretty sure if I was to do one, I'd end up scaring my partner away. Jolly.
Looking back to the title, I'm pretty sure I've lost the point of writing this article because I was too hyped up and emotional over this matter. How very important, am I right? It's funny to think that I'm also weeks away from the national exam and all I want to do is just to snuggle with a blanket with a hot drink and stream shows. My future's looking bright.

Point is, a mother shall not choose which kid she likes the most instead of the other. My babies are unique in their own ways, and I shall not pick which one I like the most. My precious, little babies.
